Okay, I think everyone here is misunderstanding something. She started this whole process at about the age of 10? I find this much more disturbing than Gilbert's proclamation that he loved Violet. It is this last sentiment that bothers me much more than the idea Gilbert is a pedophile, he taught her how to be a battle doll, to kill, to shut out any emotions' she may develop.
However, up to this point at no time did Gilbert make any claims of love, he my have been on his death bed for all we knew (forgetting the latest movie.) He may have been describing a familial love of Violet, He had been her mentor for 4 years, teaching her to read, write, speak, and to fight, kill. Okay, he was maybe 25 years old or so and Violet is assumed to be 14 or so at this point. Nonetheless, there seems t be some traction to the fact Gilbert said he loved Violet at the battle of intense. Okay, first off, since I neither speak or read Japanese, I can only refer to the English dubbed Anime series so maybe I have missed something in the light novel. I have seen this discussion and have to admit I am not party to it.
